Chapter One · Arrival
Day 01
— 15 July 2025 —
The flight from Wilson Airport is short, low, and almost worth the trip on its own. The Mara unfolds beneath the plane like something the pilot is making up as he goes.
Chapter Two · Dawn
Day 02
— 16 July 2025 —
We left camp at five-thirty. We were back by ten. In between, we sat with a pride of seven for almost an hour, no one speaking.
The savannah does not perform for you. It simply continues.
Chapter Three · The Mara River
Day 03
— 17 July 2025 —
The wildebeest hesitated for almost two hours. Then, all at once, the river was full of them.
Chapter Four · A slow afternoon

A cheetah sat on a termite mound for so long we eventually forgot she was the reason we were there. The wind, the grass, the light — all of it counted.

A hot-air balloon over the Mara is one of those things that sound like a tourist trap and turn out to be exactly what they say they are.
